Dracula Gah!

I’ve been wanting to see Francis Ford Coppola’s version of Dracula for a while. I’d seen bits and pieces of it but never the entire movie so I was really excited to watch this finally. Turns out I wasn’t missing very much. Gary Oldman as Dracula was great. I liked him dressed up to the nines with a goatee and top hat but in spite of the wardrobe and the voice he just doesn’t seem that sexy to me. The romance between Mina (Winona Ryder) and Dracula might have been more believable if they’d cast a better, less attractive actress. Then again, maybe not. Winona and Keanu trying to pass off an English accent made me want to plug my ears. They were painful to watch. The story telling was choppy. It’s like the director wanted to skip all the exposition and focus directly on a bunch of melodramatic scenes. Well, I love melodrama but I think it tends to lose impact if you don’t set the story up for the big payoff which this production failed to do. Bah.

  1. That movie was too blech to be scary. I was only able to watch 5 or 10 minutes of it before I just couldn’t take it anymore. Their fake Brit accents was funny though.
